About Me

Hi there!

My name isPeter "Rollie" Morrison Peter "Rollie" Morrison and I live in the Washington DC metropolitan area on the east coast of the United States. I'm an inventor, traveler, foodie, photographer (both digital and film), and horseman with a natural talent for riding. I have competed in 3-day eventing, Peter riding a grey horseserved as an instructor, and worked as a stable manager at two large stables serving the DC area.

I grew up in Western Pennsylvania and graduated with honors from Geneva College, later attending graduate school at George Washington University, with some post-graduate classes taken at the University of Maryland and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Since 1983, I've lived in the Washington DC Metropolitan area working as a research scientist and engineer.

Today, I lead multiple research projects and programs, from early foundational basic sciences in materials, engineering, mathematics, chemistry, and high energy physics - to organizing and constructing advanced technology and pre-production low-quantity prototype demonstrations - which include field testing. To do this, I work with academia, government services & agency laboratories, small businesses, and industry - to sponsor & develop new emerging technologies. My efforts have resulted in multiple awards and accolades, including the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service medal and being a Samuel J. Heyman Public Service medal finalist. I also mentor young professionals and students, offering resume-building and interviewing advice. And I really have fun with working with young emerging professionals too - by judging at local, regional, state, and national science fairs from the elementary to high school levels.

I believe that hard work is effort well spent, even when you don't personally succeed. I'm a strong proponent of diversity in the workplace, women's rights regarding voting and control over their own bodies, and that using a correct pronoun for someone enables those individuals to feel better about themselves. My own personal quote is "Imagination should expect Skepticism." - as change isn't just about you changing something through creativity, but you often have to help others see the value of that change from their own comfort level - to something that seems - different.

And speaking of different - I take pride in my Highland Scottish heritage by wearing a kilt, and am a member of the Saint Andrew's Society of Washington DC . And I sponsor and attend the Virginia Scottish Games held over the Labor Day weekend, where we drink Bowmore Single Malt and Belhaven Scottish Ale, and enjoy haggis and fish and chips while watching the pro's toss a kaber or while spinning a yarn or two in the cool summer evenings.

When it comes to being a sports fan, after horseback riding - I'm a professional baseball and football fan, especially for my hometown teams, the Pirates and Steelers. I'm also a proud member of the Myron Cope "Terrible Towel" Brigade and even witnessed the Immaculate Reception by Franco Harris on live TV. I have also experienced the loss of Roberto Clemente, which was a difficult time for my community. More recently, I've been watching Formula 1 and IMSA racing on TV, as well as the Drone Racing League (DRL.)
